Lisa & Michael’s Wedding Photography at Shottle Hall

Shottle Hall was the reception venue for Lisa & Mikey’s gorgeous wedding the weather could not have been better for their big day. We first met Lisa and Mikey at their friends Gemma and Nathans wedding last year. Lisa was a bridesmaid and Mikey was doing his best not to get told off by the Vicar whilst recording the ceremony for them. To say that I loved working with these guys again was an understatement it was a totally fantastic day from start to finish. To find out a little more about them I asked Lisa and Mikey a few questions about their big day, how they met and what tips they may have for anyone planning to get married.

Lisa and Mikey met through a mutual friend (her bridesmaid) Kendall – They were in town shopping for Jeggins when Mikey worked at Republic they went in an d Kendall introduced them. A couple of weeks later Lisa was shopping in Dunelm with her Mum and Dad and Mikey was with his Mum and Nan getting last minute bits for Uni, They ended up queuing behind each other and Mikey (the gentleman that he is) went and helped his Nan into the car – he says its so that he could say hi when Lisa walked out, but it ended up being an awkward nod and “alright”. Lisa then text Kendall asking her “what’s Republic boys name” stalked him on Facebook and the rest is history!! A few years later Mikey thought he would be really clever and ask his sisters to ask Lisa to plan a “surprise birthday party” for his 24th that would actually be their engagement party. All the plans were going well but obviously Lisa sussed it out because girls are actually more clever! She told her friend what she thought he had planned.. And she told Mikey that I knew everything. So the day before the party he said he wanted to go out for a birthday meal at the Waterfront in Barton Marina (which was where they went for their first date) and after the meal they walked around the corner where Mikey had planned for some of their family and friends to be stood with a banner that said “Will you marry me?”

What suppliers did you use and why? Flowers – The Greenary, Duffield – we saw them at a wedding fayre and the samples she had were amazing! She was so lovely and so patient with my indecisiveness!!! Dj – Spirits high entertainment – again saw him at a wedding fayre, his set looked lovely, he was really professional and took time to get to know us. Photobooth – Easy booth Derby. So much cheaper than other photobooth’s as they don’t do print outs, but that was fine with us, we just wanted it as a bit of fun! Ice-cream cart – Truly scrumptious gelato. The ice-cream tasted amazing and they were really reasonable, there were so many flavour choices and lots of different packages to choose from. Hair pieces – Brides, mother of the bride, mother of the groom and bridesmaids. From a little shop in Draycott called baroque couture. Elaina, the owner is so talented, she makes everything as a one of so that it will be unique to your wedding.

Why did you choose shottle hall? We knew we wanted a marquee as I’m quite creative and wanted to have a blank canvas to completely make it our own!! Shottlehall just seemed perfect, we fell in love as soon as we went to look around! The grounds are stunning, the price was amazing compared to other venues and Trudy our wedding planner was so helpful. The only downside is that the overnight rooms are reserved for the hall, but we found a beautiful B&B just down the road – Chevin green farm.

Your dress was amazing how did you choose it? Thank you.. By far the hardest and most stressful decision!! I went wedding dress shopping with a very clear image in my mind of a strapless princess dress, but once I started trying them on, I just didn’t feel comfortable. My dress was actually one of the first out of so many I tried on and kept going back to! Every dress I tried on after, I compared back to it, when I realised this, I knew this was the dress!! The wedding house – where I got my dress from were incredible! I cannot recommend them enough!! Jon and Abi were the most patient, lovely and helpful people! The shop is just amazing, so many beautiful dresses and you are just made to feel so special from the minute you walk in!

Any tips for future brides? Just enjoy planning it! Don’t stress about the silly things, no one else knows what you had planned so if anything doesn’t go quite right no one will know but you, and you’ll be having far to much fun to care! Go to as many wedding fayres as you can, they are so much fun and apparently it’s not acceptable to go when your married?! Defiantly get Pinterest – so many amazing ideas on there! On the day make sure you take time with your new partner just the two of you, to check in every now and then! The day is about the two of you of corse! Try on as many different wedding dress types as you can, even the ones you never think you will like! You’ll be surprised. A tip for grooms – learn the phrase “Yes dear” the sooner you do this the better. If you was a guest at Lisa and Mikeys wedding and want to see all of their wedding photographs as them for the password and click here.
